The cause of a fire that startled the Las Vegas strip a few weeks ago has been determined by fire investigators. But the company responsible for the fire claims they did nothing wrong.

A fire ripped through the upper levels of the Monte Carlo Hotel Casino a few weeks ago. Nobody was injured in the blaze, but there is two distinctly different stories as to the cause of the fire.

A Clark County Fire Department investigation revealed that the cause of the fire was due to negligence on the part of Union Erectors, a company that was doing work at the casino.

The department says in their report that the proper precautionary measures were not taken to prevent molten material from sparking.

The company accused of being at fault has disputed the report. They claim that they had the necessary permits to be allowed to perform the welding and torch cutting that was needed for the job.

Fire investigators have disputed that claim. They believe there is no record of those permits existing. They also say the company should have been using slag mats to stop the hot metal from igniting anything. A worker should have been on lookout for potential sparks that could have started the fire, according to the departments report.

A new casino will be constructed near Carson City, Nevada. That announcement came after Douglas County officials gave their final OK to some of the modifications made to the casino plans.

Phase one and phase two of the casino construction have been approved by the Douglas County Board of Commissioners. American Vantage Cos. and Brownstone GoldTown CV have partnered in the venture that will bring the casino near Carson City.

The cost of the casino will be $125 million. It will include two phases of construction. The construction will consist of 92,000 feet of casino floor space, 1,000 slot machines, 300 hotel rooms and suites, a sports book, a six table poker room, and several dining options.

Building will begin on the new casino sometime in the second quarter of 2008. GoldTown is the name of the casino. It will be located on forty five acres in Douglas County.

The hold up for the final approval was over zoning adjustments that had to made. Also, there was the issue of the 100 foot building height that had to be addressed. Both issues have been resolved and the plans are now set to move forward with the construction of the casino.
